Storms and arrests

This comes at a time when the Israeli army continued its raids into cities and towns in the West Bank, and arrested 12 Palestinians in various areas during the past 24 hours.

The Prisoners' Affairs Authority and the Palestinian Prisoners' Club said in a joint statement that the arrests included Hebron, Jericho, Tulkarm, and Bethlehem, adding that among the detainees were former prisoners.

This brings the number of detainees in the West Bank since October 7 to 6,950.

The statement confirmed that arrests are accompanied by sabotage, destruction, and severe beatings against detainees and their families, and confiscation of money and private property by the Israeli occupation forces.

For his part, Al Jazeera's correspondent reported that the Israeli occupation forces stormed the towns of Sa'ir and Beit Ummar, northeast of Hebron.

The Israeli army said that its forces ended last night a 12-hour operation in the town of Beit Ummar, north of Hebron in the West Bank, during which they arrested 8 people, interrogated young men, and searched several buildings.

The Israeli army added that its forces found a factory to produce homemade explosive devices, and confiscated dozens of illegal vehicles, military equipment, incendiary materials, Molotov cocktails ready for use, and other weapons, inside the town.

The forces also stormed the village of Hajjah in Qalqilya and fired tear gas towards homes. They also arrested two prisoners freed from the city. They also stormed the town of Rujib, east of Nablus, and set up a military checkpoint on the “Al-Badhan” road.

Settlement project

In another context, Haaretz newspaper revealed that the Israeli government is exploiting the preoccupation with the war on Gaza to push a settlement project to build a new neighborhood for Jews in East Jerusalem.

According to the newspaper, the new neighborhood will bear the name “Novi Rahal,” and its establishment is being prepared and planned in cooperation with far-right activists.

The initial plans call for the construction of 650 housing units a few meters from Palestinian homes in the Umm Tuba suburb, south of occupied East Jerusalem.

Since the first days of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, settlers have launched violent attacks against Palestinians in various areas of the West Bank.

According to the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission, the occupation authorities and settlers carried out 1,593 attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank, including 186 attacks carried out by settlers.

The violations were concentrated in Hebron Governorate, followed by occupied Jerusalem and Nablus Governorate.

Violations include theft of livestock and agricultural machinery, seizure of vehicles, uprooting and burning trees, and demolitions of homes and facilities.
