There are no longer any diplomatic relations: According to official information, the city of Moscow has terminated the lease agreement for the Ukrainian embassy. This is the answer to Kiev's termination of the Russian embassy there, said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova in Moscow. "In diplomacy there is the principle of reciprocity," explained Zakharova. The Ukrainian side was informed about the step.

The embassy building is located in the center of the Russian capital. It is a manor house that was originally built in the 18th century and was later expanded several times. It belonged, among others, to Count Alexei Uwarov. The well-known writer Lev Tolstoy was one of the guests of the house.

Shortly after the Russian war of aggression began almost two years ago, Russia and Ukraine broke off diplomatic relations. The Ukrainian embassy in Moscow itself was closed on the first day of the war, February 24, 2022.

Around three weeks later, Kiev informed the public about the closure of the Ukrainian consulates in several Russian cities. In April 2023, the Kiev city administration terminated the Russian Embassy's lease.
