The diplomat, in a conversation with RIA Novosti, expressed the opinion that the United States is talking about Russia’s alleged purchase of weapons from the DPRK in order to put pressure on South Korea and force it to arm Kyiv. The West does not have evidence of such deliveries, but they may try to fabricate them, Matsegora emphasized.
“The reason for the hysteria is clear - this is how pressure is being put on South Korea to encourage it to directly supply ammunition to Ukraine. Seoul has large reserves of such property. I really hope that the southerners will not succumb to provocation. This would be a very big mistake with far-reaching consequences,” the ambassador said.
The fact that the United States is trying to drag South Korea into the conflict in Ukraine was previously noted by Russian Foreign Ministry representative Maria Zakharova. As the Russian Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Georgy Zinoviev recalled, Moscow and Seoul can restore partnerships if South Korea does not cross the red line and organize direct supplies of weapons to Kyiv.
