Qatar Energy placed its confidence in Nakilat for its leadership in shipping liquefied gas (French)

Qatar Energy Company said that it has selected Qatar Gas Transport Company Limited (Nakilat) to own and operate up to 25 conventional-sized liquefied natural gas tankers, through long-term leasing contracts to be concluded between companies affiliated with Qatar Energy and “Nakilat.”

The company added - in a statement - that this is the first contract in the second batch of long-term leasing contracts within the framework of the “Historic Qatar Energy Project” to expand its liquefied natural gas fleet, at a time when other owners are expected to be selected and announced in due course.

Engineer Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, Qatari Minister of State for Energy Affairs, Managing Director and CEO of Qatar Energy, said: “We are very pleased to announce this partnership with Nakilat, which reflects our confidence in this leading Qatari company in shipping liquefied natural gas, and our pride in its ability to compete in a global tender. Al-Kaabi stressed that Qatar Energy is continuing to build its future fleet of liquefied natural gas tankers, which is expected to exceed 100 ships.

He continued, "We look forward to announcing more long-term lease contracts with other companies in the near future."

According to the company's statement, the 25 ships - each with a capacity of 174 thousand cubic meters - will be 100% owned by Nakilat and will be leased to companies affiliated with Qatar Energy Company.

According to the same statement, these ships are scheduled to be built in shipyards in South Korea.

In 2022, Qatar Energy signed a series of long-term leasing contracts for 60 liquefied natural gas tankers, concluding the first phase of its “historic and unprecedented” program - according to the company’s description - to expand its fleet, which aims to support and meet the future requirements of the North East Field expansion projects. And the North-South field.
