The couturier

Lorenzo Caprile

has given the proclamation of the 2024 Carnival festivities in Matadero de Madrid dressed as the thirteenth Duchess of Alba.

Among the applause of the public, he inaugurated the Madrid Carnivals, which will be held between February 10 and 14 in the cultural space of Matadero Madrid and other points in the capital.

In his speech he encouraged the people of Madrid to enjoy "these wonderful days", dress up and do everything they will not be able to do during the forty days of Lent.

He kicked off these festivities in Madrid's

Matadero

, after acknowledging that perhaps he would have liked to do it from his

Buenavista Palace

, but Godoy expropriated it, or from the Moncloa Palace, although "they already have their place there." Carnival itself", or from the Royal Palace, although he does not get along very well with the queen.

On this day, there have been three creative expression workshops for the little ones, as well as a themed gymkhana for the carnivals of the world and the puppet show 'Almavera', by the Etcétera company, the Madrid City Council has indicated in a note.

The party ended at 2:00 p.m. with a

parade

throughout Matadero Madrid with the artists at the helm, followed by the participants of the workshops and the gymkhana and all those who want to join the celebration.

On this Saturday afternoon, dancing will take center stage in 'The Great Wig Party', with three hours of music where wigs will be the mandatory dress code to join the carnival fun, in a party entertained by the artist Silvi ManeQueen and the DJs El Cuerpo del Disco, Oro Jondo and Laura Put.

On Sunday, February 11, Matadero Madrid will host the manteo of a rag doll starting at 11:00 a.m. by the Arrabel Cultural Association, along with a troupe of giants and big heads of Goyesque red wines, to give way to the murgas and chirigotas at 12:00 p.m.

And on February 14, Ash Wednesday, will be the time for the traditional burial of the sardine and, with it, silence the chirigotas until next year to welcome Lent and prepare for Holy Week.
