The International Court of Justice announced yesterday, Friday, that 52 countries and 3 international organizations will express their opinions during public hearings to be held between the 19th and 26th of this month, regarding the legal consequences of Israeli practices in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem.

Participating countries include Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Algeria, Jordan, Tunisia, Syria, Egypt, Iraq, Libya, Lebanon, Sudan and Turkey.

Each country will make an oral statement lasting 30 minutes, and the League of Arab States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the African Union will also participate in the hearings.

In December 2022, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution entitled “Israeli settlement practices and activities that affect the rights of the Palestinian people and other Arab residents in the occupied territories.”

Accordingly, the international organization decided to request the International Court of Justice to issue a fatwa on the legal consequences arising from Israel’s continued violation of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.

On January 26, the International Court of Justice announced its preliminary decisions in the case brought by South Africa within the framework of the 1948 Genocide Convention, and ordered Israel to take the necessary measures to prevent the commission of any acts in Gaza that may constitute genocide.

Despite international justice resolutions calling for an end to the attacks against the Palestinians, Israel continues its attacks on the Gaza Strip and refrains from taking steps to end the human tragedy.
