With its announcement of entering the third phase of the ground operation in the Gaza Strip, the occupation army began using new tactics based on reducing the number of soldiers while focusing on specific qualitative operations.

But the Palestinian resistance factions are also changing their defensive tactics, according to the changing nature of Israeli operations, as their reliance on sniping has increased during the recent period.

According to a report prepared by Mahmoud Al-Kan for Al-Jazeera, this shift in the behavior of the resistance - according to military experts - aims to exhaust the occupation army, as the resistance has inflicted great losses among the ranks of officers and soldiers.

In such wars, holding territory is the decisive factor, not just entering or controlling it temporarily, experts say.

In this regard, the resistance fighters appeared as if they were besieging the occupation forces stationed in a number of Gaza cities and regions from all directions, as shown in the video clips they broadcast.

In addition, the resistance snipers also seemed more free to move and hunt targets during the third phase of the war compared to the previous phases, in which the intensity of Israeli fire was the main theme.

The Al-Qassam Brigades - the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) - used the "Ghoul" sniper rifles, which they manufactured locally, and the Chinese "M99" anti-armour rifles, which have a range of up to 1.5 kilometers.

The sniper needs more specific training, as he must hide, identify high-value targets, and hit them accurately from a distance of hundreds of meters.
