Varga said she takes full responsibility for signing Novak's pardon decision. 

“I am leaving political life and renouncing my parliamentary mandate,” the message says.

Varga clarified that for the pardon document to come into force, a counter-signature from the head of the Ministry of Justice was required, which she provided.

Earlier, Hungarian President Katalin Nowak announced that she was resigning.

The resignation comes amid a scandal involving the pardon of a man convicted of concealing information about sexual abuse in an orphanage.
