Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday that his government aims to raise daily oil production at the Ghabar well in the state of Şırnak, southeast of the country, to 100,000 barrels by the end of 2024.

President Erdogan stressed - during a public gathering held in the state of Zonguldak overlooking the Black Sea - that one of his country's most important priorities is "achieving complete independence in the field of energy," noting that steps were being taken decisively that would ensure energy security in Turkey.

He stated that the daily oil production in the Ghabar well reached 35 thousand barrels, stressing that the goal is to reach 100 thousand barrels per day by the end of 2024.

Erdogan indicated that he will continue to provide 25 cubic meters of natural gas to families for free until next April.

He expressed his hope to provide good and new news regarding oil, mines and natural gas in the coming period, and said, "We will never again allow Turkey to be prevented from using its underground and surface resources."

On December 12, 2022, President Erdogan announced the discovery of a field with oil reserves of 150 million barrels in Mount Ghabar.
