He stated this in an interview with Sputnik radio.

As Kopyrkin said, unfriendly countries are trying to work against Russia’s interests in the South Caucasus.

He added that hostile external forces view the South Caucasus region as an instrument of policy against Moscow.

“Russia’s position is absolutely clear: the South Caucasus is a vital region for us, Russia has played, is playing and will play an important role in the South Caucasus, because it is in our interests that this be a region of peace, stability and development,” the ambassador emphasized.

Any attempts to use the region for geopolitical purposes will receive strong opposition from Russia, Kopyrkin concluded.

Earlier, Deputy Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Mikhail Galuzin said that the United States is considering the possibility of opening a second front against Russia in the South Caucasus.
