The February school holidays officially begin this Friday for zone C which includes Île-de-France and Occitanie. Bison Futé anticipates fairly heavy traffic in the Rhône-Alpes region, but nothing comparable to the summer crossover.

Ski resorts are preparing to experience a surge in traffic. The winter school holidays officially begin this weekend in zone C which brings together the academies of Créteil, Paris, Versailles, Montpellier and Toulouse. Traffic should therefore increase over the weekend, particularly in the Rhône-Alpes region where many vehicles will converge to head towards the Savoyard resorts.

Bison Futé is indeed forecasting slowdowns in this area from Friday. Orange traffic, or "difficult", in the direction of departures, which will however have nothing to compare with the situations sometimes observed during the summer crossover, during which it is not uncommon to exceed the bar of the 1,000 km of cumulative traffic jams. As a reminder, Bison Futé establishes a color code ranging from green (usual traffic) to black (extremely difficult traffic) depending on the traffic on the roads.

Dense traffic also towards the Vosges and the Jura

Traffic will also be denser in Île-de-France this Friday, still in the direction of departures. On Saturday, the difficulties will extend to the north-east of the country, particularly towards the resorts of Vosges and Jura.

In detail, Bison Futé recommends avoiding the A7 motorway between Lyon and Orange, as well as the A72 between Nervieux and Saint-Étienne between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. this Friday. Between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., the A43 motorway, between Lyon and Chambéry, promises to be quite busy. For Saturday, it is the A6, the major axis linking Paris to Lyon, which should be avoided between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m., according to Bison Futé. Traffic on the A43 should again be tricky, but between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. this time, as is the RN 85 between Grenoble and Gap from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The return to normal traffic is planned for Sunday.
