In a large room in the Kremlin, the two men sit face to face around a coffee table. For his first interview with a Western media outlet in two years, Vladimir Putin chose the favorite influencer of the American Trumpist right: Tucker Carlson, a former Fox News journalist regularly accused of serving as a megaphone for Kremlin propaganda in the United States.

Millions of views in just a few hours

The first thirty minutes of the interview resemble a monologue in the form of a history lesson. Putin goes back to the 17th century to explain that Ukraine would not be a country, then he assures that the defeat of the Russian army is impossible: “
