“He will arrive in early March... We work daily with his team. The construction of a nuclear power plant is a state strategic issue, as well as a matter of state security for Hungary,” he told RIA Novosti.

According to Szijjártó, with the new nuclear power plant the country will be able to more than halve its nuclear capacity.

He added that during the visit Likhachev will assess the progress of construction of nuclear power plant units and the necessary documents for permits from the Hungarian regulator.

Hungary previously stated that it would not give up ties with Russia in the energy sector because of Kyiv.

Hungary and Russia signed a work plan for the construction of the Paks 2 nuclear power plant.

The head of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev, emphasized that the construction of the Paks-2 nuclear power plant on the territory of Hungary will take place in any case.
