In response to the death of a 4-month-old boy at a child care facility in Tokyo's Setagaya Ward in December last year, Minister of State for Child Policy Kato asked local governments across the country to prevent sleeping at day care facilities under their jurisdiction in order to prevent a recurrence. He expressed his intention to call for thorough safety measures inside the facility.

The unlicensed childcare facility in Tokyo's Setagaya Ward that the deceased boy used was not attentive enough, including sometimes forcing infants to sleep on their stomachs and not closely observing the child's complexion or breathing status. This has been revealed by the city's investigation.

At a press conference on the 9th, Minister of State for Children's Policy Kato said, ``I understand the sadness of the parents and families of the children who died.We must make sure that accidents like this never happen again.'' ” he said.

He then stated, ``If there are facilities like this one that do not ensure that patients are placed on their backs, or that do not provide detailed observation, I would like them to make improvements immediately.'' , expressed their intention to require thorough safety measures while sleeping at childcare facilities under their jurisdiction.
