  • Executive Doubts in the Government of its plan to convince Puigdemont and Yolanda Díaz is already distancing itself: "It is not going in the right direction"

  • Junts Negotiation informs the PSOE that the "total amnesty" is a red line after the setback in the Supreme Court

The Government hoped that at this point, the Amnesty Law would already be approved in Congress and that it would be being processed in the Senate to be definitively approved in the month of April. But disagreements with Junts over the scope of forgiveness have prevented the first step. The formation of Carles Puigdemont was temporarily knocked down in Congress because its scope was considered insufficient, due to the fear that the fugitive from Justice would be left out of it after his accusation of terrorism.

Pedro Sánchez is determined not to touch the text and this week he offered as an alternative to reform the

Criminal Procedure Law

(Lecrim) to shorten judicial investigations to try to convince Junts. But the rejection of the Catalan independentists, of Sumar - a minority partner in the coalition - and the doubts within the Government have cooled this path. What's more, Junts, after the decision of the Board of Prosecutors to endorse by a large majority opening a case against

Puigdemont

for terrorism, places a "total or comprehensive amnesty" as a red line. As EL MUNDO reports this Thursday, they consider that the amnesty and the Lecrim reform "are two different things" that, furthermore, should not be addressed at the same time."

Given this rejection by the partners and Junts, the Government admits that "they are looking for formulas" to try to redirect the situation with Junts. The Executive does not offer details of what these "formulas" are. "It's about finding a fit so that in a complicated situation we can carry out the spirit of the proposal," said Óscar Puente, Minister of Transportation, in an interview on Antena 3.

Because the proposal that Sánchez launched generated doubts even within the Government. "We don't know if Junts is going to be happy with the

Lecrim

reform ," they admit in the Executive. "Let's see how far we can go." Puente considers that the Lecrim reform cannot be linked to the amnesty. "Linking it to the

Amnesty Law

strictly may not be the most convenient." Vice President Yolanda Díaz also showed her doubts and rejection. "This proposal does not seem to be going in the right direction due to the general impact it may have."

What

La Moncloa

is clear about is that the text of the Amnesty Law is not going to be touched, at least that is the position they maintain, so that it includes all the crimes of "terrorism" and "treason" as Junts demands. "We are not going to touch the text, that is clear," oppose

Sánchez

's team .

"We have gone as far as we could go in the Amnesty Law," said

Puente

. "We believe that the law has constitutional filters to pass and the changes that are made have to pass that premise." And the Executive assumes that accepting Junts' demands for a "total amnesty" would prevent it from passing the examination of the

Constitutional Court

and the

Court of Justice of the European Union

.
