Expectations of the resignation of prominent Israeli security and military leaders due to the Al-Aqsa flood (Reuters)

The Israeli newspaper "Jerusalem Post" confirmed that an Israeli intelligence officer submitted his resignation due to what it described as a "miserable failure" in anticipating the attack of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on October 7.

The newspaper described this first resignation of its kind as a “major event,” and expected it to pave the way for other resignations within the ranks of the senior military ranks.

She revealed that the Israeli officer was responsible for reducing the risks of “Hamas invading” the area surrounding the Gaza Strip, explaining that this was part of a general vision within the Israeli security and military services that believed that “Hamas does not represent a current threat.”

The Jerusalem Post continued that the Chief of Staff of the Israeli Army, Herzi Halevi, the Director of the Internal Security Service (Shin Bet), Ronen Bar, and the Head of the Military Intelligence Service, Aharon Haliva, claimed responsibility for the failure to confront the Hamas attack, and indicated their readiness to submit their resignations.

She said that experts expect that major security and military leaders will not rush to submit their resignations as the war on Gaza continues, and because of the complications of what happened last October 7.

She added that the investigation into what happened would require months, especially since Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is trying to blame others for that failure and prevent any investigations that might affect him.
