The republican department of the Investigative Committee of Russia informs about this.

The body of a woman was discovered in August 1997 in the forest next to a country road that leads to the village of Pyalma. The body showed signs of violent death. It was established that the woman died as a result of mechanical asphyxia.

At that time, it was not possible to identify the person involved in the murder, so the preliminary investigation was suspended.

“As part of the work to solve crimes of past years, investigators and criminologists, in interaction with operational officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Karelia, after studying the materials of the criminal case, identified shortcomings that were made during the initial investigative actions,” the Investigative Committee said.

As a result, it was possible to recreate the true picture of what happened and establish that a 41-year-old resident of St. Petersburg, who was 14 years old at the time of the crime, was involved in the murder.

During interrogation, he admitted that in 1997 he got off the bus at a bus stop with an unknown woman. Out of hooligan motives, he decided to kill her and hit her on the head with a stone. After that, he dragged the victim into a ditch in the forest belt and strangled her.

The attacker was charged under paragraph “i” of Part 2 of Art. 105 of the Criminal Code of Russia.
