Three bodies were found under the rubble of a building which collapsed on Tuesday morning near the city of Barcelona in Spain. The missing residents were searched all night by firefighters, who said they had manually cleared 60 cubic meters of rubble from the site.

In Spain, three bodies were found under the rubble of a building which collapsed near the city of Barcelona, ​​firefighters announced on Wednesday, who searched all night for three missing residents. 

“We have located three dead bodies in the building that collapsed in Badalona. They are awaiting identification,” wrote the regional fire service on X (formerly Twitter), almost 24 hours after the collapse of five-story residential building in a town just north of Barcelona. 

A gaping hole

The building collapsed on Tuesday shortly after 10:30 a.m. for reasons that are still unexplained. Images posted online by firefighters show a gaping hole that runs from the top floor to the ground floor of the building.

Firefighters said they were working to manually clear 60 cubic meters of rubble from the site, where 19 teams took turns throughout the night, accompanied by sniffer dogs, to try to find three missing residents.

According to local media, the building, which includes 20 apartments, was built in 1959 and recently underwent a security inspection.
