The department reports this on Telegram.

“Rosrybolovstvo sent its proposal to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan about its readiness to provide assistance in rescuing killer whales,” the statement said.

The Russian department clarified that Rosrybolovstvo and the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography have enough competence to save mammals stuck in the ice, which are listed in the Red Book.

Previously, ice drifting off the coast of Hokkaido in northern Japan blocked a pod of killer whales numbering 16-17 individuals.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that representatives of environmental movements in the West are inactive when the number of days is counting on the issue of rescuing killer whales stuck off the coast of the Japanese island of Hokkaido.
