On the 7th, a bill necessary to create a "security clearance" system in which the government checks and certifies the trustworthiness of people who handle information important to economic security was introduced at a meeting of the Liberal Democratic Party on the 7th. If a certified person leaks information, it will be subject to imprisonment for up to five years.

At the Liberal Democratic Party's Economic Security Conference held on the 7th, the government outlined a new bill that would create a "security clearance" system to prevent the leakage of cutting-edge technology.

According to this, information on cyberattacks and information on the vulnerability of supply chains for goods, etc., which, if leaked to the outside, could pose a threat to Japan's national security, is classified as ``Important Economic and Security Information.'' The government has confirmed the trustworthiness of the people who can handle the information, and only those who have been certified by the government have been designated as such.

When confirming reliability, the government will, with the consent of the individual, investigate information

about family members and cohabitants,

criminal history,

information about drugs and alcohol

,

and financial situation. .

If a certified person leaks important information, they will be sentenced to imprisonment for up to five years or a fine of up to 5 million yen, and the company where they work can also be fined.

Since no objections were raised at the meeting on the 7th, the government has decided to make a cabinet decision on the proposal by the end of February and submit it to the current regular session of the Diet.
