Azerbaijan, which won last year in a military conflict in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh, held a presidential election on the 7th, and the ruling party led by incumbent President Aliyev declared victory. Mr. Aliyev, now in his fifth term, is expected to further solidify the foundations of his long-term administration.

A presidential election was held in Azerbaijan on the 7th, and local media reported that the exit poll showed that out of the seven candidates, incumbent President Ilham Aliyev received over 90% of the votes.

State television and other media reported on people celebrating by gathering with national flags in various parts of the country, and the ruling party led by Aliyev declared the president's victory on social media.

Last year, the former Soviet Union of Azerbaijan won military action against Nagorno-Karabakh, a long-disputed territory with neighboring Armenia, and dismantled the administrative structure that had claimed to be an independent country.

Citing these achievements, President Aliyev decided to hold a presidential election one year earlier than originally planned, and on the 7th, he held his own vote in the central city of Nagorno-Karabakh, making efforts to unify the region he has regained control over.

Based on the results of this election, Mr. Aliyev, who is now in his fifth term, is expected to further solidify the foundations of his long-term government, which together with his father, former President Heydar, has been in power for 38 years.
