The United Nations Security Council issued an emergency response on the 5th in response to the US military's airstrikes on the facilities of Iran's elite military forces in Iraq and Syria in retaliation for the attack that killed three soldiers. A meeting was held.

In response, U.S. Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations Wood criticized Iran, saying, ``Iran continues to escalate tensions across the region,'' and added, ``We will continue to exercise our right of self-defense at a time and place of our choosing, and protect Iran and its affiliated organizations.'' We will continue to hold them accountable."

In response, Iran's Ambassador to the United Nations, Iravani, condemned the US airstrikes as a violation of the sovereignty of Iraq and Syria, saying, ``When Iran faces an attack or invasion that threatens its security, we must exercise our rights.'' "We will not hesitate to take a decisive response," leading to an exchange of accusations from both the United States and Iran.

Other countries at the meeting condemned the attack that killed three American soldiers and expressed their respect for the United States' exercise of its right to self-defense, while some African and other Council members expressed their view that the United States would take retaliatory measures. Some expressed concern that this could lead to increased tensions in the region.
