Moubaideen: We all look forward to cooperation in the Arab media to confront the challenges facing our Arab nation (Al Jazeera)

The Arab Media Forum 2024, the first forum for influencers and content creators, was launched in the Jordanian capital, Amman, on Tuesday.

The forum was organized by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, the Media and Communication Sector, and the Arab Satellite Broadcasting Authority, and discusses many topics and issues that are at the forefront of interest and discussion, especially those related to the reality of sustainable development plans and strategies in the region.

At the opening of the forum, the Jordanian Minister of Government Communications and the official spokesman for the Jordanian government, Muhannad Mubaidin, said: “We are all looking forward to cooperation in the Arab media to confront many of the challenges facing our Arab nation, especially the challenge of injustice, inequity, colonialism, and occupation that our brothers in beloved Palestine face.”

He added: "We seek to convey the suffering of this great people in defending their right to exist, consolidating the justice of their cause, and spreading the true narrative that exposes the falsehood and deception practiced by the Israeli occupation media. This requires Arab media support and clear Arabic content from influential colleagues and Arab content makers."

The head of the Arab Satellite Broadcasting Authority, Muhammad Al-Adaileh, said: Applying standards of transparency and neutrality requires efforts to unify Arab media discourse in the face of a series of crises and issues of common concern.

Participants' experiences

He added that the forum devoted space to many topics, where the experiences of the participants are benefited from to confront the challenges of advancement that obstruct the method of development and its programmes, and to overcome the difficulties facing it, which marks a milestone that elevates our peoples from the bitterness of the economic and social reality to foundations heading towards reform.

Ambassador Ahmed Khattabi, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Media and Communication Sector at the League of Arab States, said that we look forward to strengthening the Arab media system and enhancing its role in defending Arab issues, foremost of which is the issue of the Palestinian people, who are struggling to establish their independent state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

He said that since last October, the Palestinian people have been exposed to brutal Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip and horrific incursions into villages, cities and towns in the West Bank.

He added that there is an increasing role for content makers in the digital space on political, economic, cultural and other levels, especially among young people.

He pointed out that young people are the segment that most uses social media platforms and networks.

Khattabi warned against "falling into vulgarity and chasing after stardom and fame and gaining fan likes without regard to ethics." Stressing that the nobility of the communication message is based on credibility and avoiding the promotion of inaccurate and misleading data that affects the sanctity of individuals and institutions.

He added that it highlights the role of influencers in sustainable development and achieving it, especially with regard to issues such as combating poverty and social marginalization, the right to treatment, adequate housing, preserving the environment, and others.

Research papers

The forum's activities include sessions that discuss research papers on several topics within the framework of the importance of sustainable development, environmental security, and the role of content makers in spreading awareness and educating different segments of society.

The forum will also discuss the reality of cybersecurity and its importance, and the reality of traditional and modern Arab media and the targeting it faces regarding the spread of misleading information and fake news.

The forum witnesses the active presence of political and media figures and the participation of delegations and governmental and private organizations from various Arab countries.
