The Argentine President during his visit to the Western Wall in Jerusalem (French)

Argentine President Javier Milli announced today, Tuesday, upon his arrival in Israel, the transfer of his country's embassy from Tel Aviv to occupied Jerusalem, while the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) denounced the decision, considering it a violation of the rules of international law.

This came while receiving Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz-Mili in Tel Aviv, upon his arrival on his first diplomatic visit as president of Argentina, according to the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry said that Katz thanked the Argentine president for recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

After his arrival, the Argentine president headed to the Western Wall in Jerusalem, and his visit is supposed to include a population center in southern Israel, and he will meet the families of the detainees.

Milley is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tomorrow, Wednesday.

"Unjust decision"

For its part, the Hamas movement denounced Argentina's decision to move its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, considering this an infringement on the rights of the Palestinians and a violation of the rules of international law.

Hamas called on the Argentine president to reverse this decision, which it described as “unjust and wrong.”

Hamas saw that the decision placed Argentina as a partner to the occupier in its violations against the Palestinian people and their national rights to their land and sanctities.

Until now, the vast majority of countries have refrained from moving their embassies to Jerusalem, with the exception of the United States of America, Kosovo, Guatemala, Honduras, and Papua New Guinea.

In recent years, the Palestinian Authority and Arab and Islamic countries have repeatedly called on countries to refrain from moving their embassies to Jerusalem.

The international community rejects the fact that Jerusalem - with its eastern and western parts - is the capital of Israel. Its western part has been under Israeli control since the Nakba in 1948, while its eastern part was occupied in the 1967 war.

It is noteworthy that UN Security Council Resolution No. (478) of 1980 affirmed that all Israeli measures in Jerusalem are “invalid and must be cancelled.”
