6 people, including 3 police officers, were injured today, Tuesday, in an attack that the Turkish authorities described as a “terrorist” attack in front of the Palace of Justice building in Istanbul, as a result of which the two perpetrators of the attack were killed in an exchange of gunfire, while Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed his country’s continued fight against terrorist organizations. Terrorist.

Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerli Kaya reported - via the X platform - that the attack took place against a checkpoint at one of the gates of the Çakalyan Court, adding that the attackers, a man and a woman, belong to the organization of the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party Front.

Turkish prosecutors opened an investigation into the attack, according to what Justice Minister Yilmaz Tun said.

Meanwhile, entry and exit from the Çağlayan Court was temporarily prohibited, and footage from the scene showed a heavy security presence at the entrance to the court.

The Revolutionary People's Liberation Party Front, which is classified as a terrorist organization in Ankara, has not yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but it has claimed responsibility for several previous attacks.

In 2015, the armed group carried out an attack on the Palace of Justice in Istanbul, resulting in the killing of Public Prosecutor Mehmet Selim Kiraz.

Fighting terrorism

For his part, Erdogan stressed that his country will resolutely continue its struggle against terrorist organizations and their supporters, in a speech in Kahramanmaraş province during the ceremony of handing over homes to those affected by the February 2023 earthquake.

Erdogan congratulated the security forces who succeeded in preventing the attack thanks to their timely intervention.

For its part, Egypt condemned in the strongest terms the attack on the Palace of Justice in Istanbul, expressing its full solidarity with Turkey.

It is noteworthy that several attacks occurred in Istanbul and Ankara recently, and responsibility for them was claimed or attributed to various armed groups.

A man was killed at the end of last month in Istanbul during a mass in an Italian Catholic church, in an attack for which the Islamic State claimed responsibility.

Two police officers were also injured in October in an attack on the Interior Ministry headquarters in Ankara, for which the PKK claimed responsibility.
