It is a decision of the judge of freedoms which makes Lille cringe. On Saturday, seven illegal immigrants targeted by removal measures were released. The reason ? They could not telephone their administrative detention center.

On Saturday, seven individuals targeted by removal measures were released by the judge of freedoms. But it is above all the reason for this decision which is surprising and which does not go away. According to information from Le

Figaro

, confirmed by Europe 1, several telephone booths in the detention center where they were held were deliberately damaged. It is therefore impossible for these seven illegal immigrants to communicate freely, which, for the judge of freedoms, corresponds to an attack on the fundamental rights of foreigners.

“An incomprehensible situation”

As a result, the seven individuals subject to a removal order were released. An aberration for Arnaud Boutelier, spokesperson for the Alliance Police Nationale union. “A big surprise, an incomprehensible and above all surprising situation, the colleagues are furious,” he says. “Knowing CRAN colleagues and management, all means are made available for detainees, namely telephones, cabins.”

"So when they are damaged on their own, unfortunately, they can either access their cell phone or buy a chip. So to say there was no phone... we remain doubtful." This has never happened before, he concludes. Two thirds of the phones have since been repaired, defends the prefecture which will appeal the decision of the judge of freedoms and retention.
