China News Service, Shanghai, February 3 (Fan Yubin) The Shanghai Democratic League announced on the 3rd that the famous mathematician, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, academician of the Academy of Developing Countries, and outstanding member of the China Democratic League, won the seventh, eighth, and Hu Hesheng, member of the 9th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, vice chairman of the 6th Chinese Mathematical Society, chairman of the 7th Shanghai Mathematical Society, professor and doctoral supervisor at Fudan University, passed away in Shanghai at 12:16 on February 2 due to illness. He died at the age of 96.

Hu Hesheng, a native of Nanjing, Jiangsu, was born in Shanghai in June 1928. In 1981, he became the first batch of doctoral supervisors at Fudan University. He joined the China Democratic League in February 1987 and served as a member of the 9th Shanghai Committee and a standing committee member of the 10th Shanghai Committee of the China Democratic League. In 1957, she married Gu Chaohao, a member of the Democratic League, a famous mathematician and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

According to the official website of the Shanghai European and American Alumni Association, Hu Hesheng is “the first female academician in Chinese mathematics.”

Hu He has been engaged in differential geometry and mathematical physics research for a long time. He has made achievements in the research of projective differential geometry, Riemannian space complete motion group, gauge fields, etc., and has made important contributions to the discipline construction of differential geometry in China. She has been invited to give lectures at famous universities in the United States, Japan and many European countries for many times, and has given invited reports at many international academic conferences. In particular, she was invited to give a Noether report at the International Congress of Mathematicians in 2002, becoming the first person to give one. The Chinese women who walked up to Knott's podium.

Hu Hesheng attaches great importance to mathematics teaching and talent training. She has long been the director of the Differential Geometry Research Office of the Institute of Mathematics at Fudan University, and has been responsible for teaching a large number of basic and professional courses. Even after she was 70 years old, she continued to organize seminars and guide graduation thesis. She has trained 20 doctors and more than 30 masters, many of whom have grown into outstanding differential geometers.

Hu Hesheng and her husband Gu Chaohao are the "fairy couple" in the mathematics kingdom and the "academician couple" of the China Democratic League. They met in the library, fell in love in the world of mathematics, and traveled hand in hand all the way. In 1991, Hu Hesheng was elected as a member (academician) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Gu Chaohao was even happier than when he was elected as an academician. He happily wrote a poem for his wife to express his congratulations: "Study hard in the cold night, turn on the light before dawn. Geometry is the true story, physics is Try a new chapter. No need to take care of the red makeup, the beauty is natural and radiant. The academy has a name, let’s celebrate the sunny day together.”

According to old friends from the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Democratic League, Gu Chaohao and Hu Hesheng were often seen in activities organized by the Democratic League at Fudan University. "They will participate in the activities of the Democratic League whenever they have time, and they will bring their alliance fees with them. Although they are all academicians, they have no pretensions at all and are very close to the alliance members." Members of the agency alliance have also visited the place where they live. When I visit Fudan University, they always warmly welcome me. “Their room is full of books. They are worthy of being an academician couple traveling in the world of mathematics.” (over)
