A leading source in the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) denied the validity of the news circulating regarding the movement’s rejection of ceasefire proposals.

The source said in statements to the Quds News Network that the news published by some Arab media about the truce agreements and the movement’s position on them is “incorrect,” and it “aims to confuse the position of the resistance and is in line with the position of the occupation to put pressure on the popular support and confuse the Palestinian street.” .

He added, "We are in the final stage of internal consultations and with the factions regarding the proposal that we received, and we will respond to it soon."

Hamas leader Mahmoud Mardawi had previously told the Quds Network that the movement’s response to the submitted paper would take into account the interests of the Palestinian people.

Mardawi added that any proposal that does not include a ceasefire will not be approved by the resistance and the Palestinian factions, and any framework agreement presented must contain clear texts that are not left to the intentions or the other party, while emphasizing the existence of clear standards during the negotiation.

Israeli dispute

On the other hand, 4 ministers from the Likud Party - led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu - attacked the direction of the exchange deal during the weekly government session, while other ministers said that the ministers’ public attack against the deal was driven by the Prime Minister’s Office.

For his part, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that Israel is not ready to accept an agreement at any cost to release detainees in Gaza. He added in statements prior to the cabinet meeting that were published to the media: “Efforts aimed at freeing the hostages continue at all times.”

In this context, Israeli Channel 13 reported that the administration of US President Joe Biden is pressuring Netanyahu to agree to a truce for a period of 4 months.

Paris proposals

The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation reported last Sunday that the summit held in Paris with the participation of Qatar, Israel, the United States and Egypt had made progress regarding prisoner exchange negotiations between Hamas and Tel Aviv.

The authority quoted an Israeli political source as saying that the summit discussed the plan to release Israeli prisoners in stages.

The source added that the parties discussed a ceasefire for approximately two months in exchange for the release of about 100 Israeli prisoners, with priority given to children, women and the sick, with Israel releasing a large number of Palestinian prisoners.

The American newspaper "The Wall Street Journal" revealed at the time, citing Egyptian officials, that a new offer had been presented to Hamas from the countries playing the role of mediator between the two sides, stipulating a ceasefire for a period of 4 months in the Gaza Strip in exchange for the release of all Israeli prisoners.

In this context, Azzam Abu Al-Adas, an expert on Israeli affairs, said that the possibility of completing the deal in the foreseeable future is unlikely, pointing out that the prisoner deal relates to the conditions of resistance, which cannot be waived under any circumstances.

Abu Adas explained that the talk is not about a prisoner deal, but about a state of political settlement in which the current reality is changed.
