He noted that Duda had gained courage and actually gave a signal to Kyiv to leave the Crimeans alone and stop entertaining illusions about the peninsula.

“Crimea will never return to Ukraine, and it’s time for the West to come to terms with this,” Sheremet emphasized.

At the same time, according to him, Duda’s words show the hypocrisy of the West, which for the last ten years has been “lying” about the supposed absence of legal grounds for the reunification of the peninsula with Russia.

Earlier, Duda admitted in an interview with Kanal Zero that he was not confident in Ukraine’s ability to return Crimea to its control.

State Duma deputy from Sevastopol, member of the International Affairs Committee Dmitry Belik said that Duda shocked the Ukrainian authorities with his statement about the historical identity of Crimea.

Crimea became a Russian region after a referendum took place there in March 2014: the majority of residents were in favor of reunification with Russia. The Kremlin has repeatedly emphasized that Crimea is an integral part of Russia and claims to Russian territory will receive a proper response.
