31 administrative detention orders against Jerusalemite detainees during January (Anatolia)

Occupied Jerusalem -

A report summarizing Israeli violations in the Holy City stated that the occupation authorities killed 5 Palestinians and arrested 163 others in the governorate during last January.

The report issued by the Jerusalem Governorate, the highest official Palestinian representation of the city, stated that among the five martyrs was a 4-year-old girl, whose body was detained for 9 days.

He pointed out the continued detention of the bodies of Muhammad Abu Eid and his wife Doha Abu Eid, who were martyred on January 7, bringing the total number of bodies detained in Jerusalem until the end of last month to 37 bodies.

The governorate’s report indicated that there were 14 children among the 163 detainees from all areas of the governorate.

He pointed out that 39 actual prison sentences were issued against Jerusalemite prisoners, including 31 administrative detention sentences, which is detention for several months that can be extended by military order without charge, indictment, or time limit.

Regarding the policy of home detention, the Jerusalem Report monitored 13 decisions issued by the occupation authorities. Home detention is decided by the occupation courts and requires the person to stay for specific periods inside the house in a forced manner.

The report spoke of 6 deportation decisions from the Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Old City, and Damascus Gate in the city of Jerusalem, indicating the continuation of raids on Al-Aqsa Mosque with the participation of 3,405 settlers.

Attempts to impose sovereignty

The Jerusalem report pointed out the continued Israeli attempts “to impose sovereignty over Jerusalem and its sanctities with the aim of imposing a new reality,” noting the continued persecution of the city’s governor, Adnan Ghaith, who has been subjected to open house arrest in his home since August 4, 2022.

The Holy City Governorate spoke - in its report - about the increase in attacks by Jewish settlers and extremists on Palestinians, at a time when the occupation police fail to arrest the aggressors, noting that 9 attacks were documented, including three physical abuse.

The governorate also recorded 18 injuries “resulting from the occupation’s use of excessive force against Jerusalemites,” including the firing of live and rubber-coated metal bullets and severe beatings.

Once again, demolition is knocking on the doors of the “Abu Al-Nawar Bedouin” community east of the city of #Jerusalem, threatening to displace dozens of Palestinians, as part of measures aimed at emptying the east of the city of Bedouin communities.. So what is the story?

Demolition and settlement

Regarding the demolition and bulldozing operations, the Jerusalem Governorate report said that their number reached 22 operations, including 8 forced self-demolition operations, and 12 demolition operations carried out by occupation mechanisms, in addition to 11 notices to demolish residential and agricultural facilities.

Jerusalemites are forced to demolish their facilities at risk of demolition themselves, to avoid heavy fines imposed by the occupation municipality if its mechanisms carry out the demolition.

The report monitored the occupation government’s approval of 4 new settlement projects, and its commencement of implementing 3 projects that were approved earlier.

Since October 7, 2023, Jerusalem neighborhoods inhabited by Palestinians have been subject to strict Israeli measures, including the Old City and Al-Aqsa Mosque, to which the numbers and ages of those allowed to access have been restricted.
