About 150,000 people demonstrated in the streets of Berlin - today, Saturday - in protests against the far-right Alternative for Germany party in front of the Federal Parliament building for the fourth week in a row, a sign of growing concern about popular support for the right-wing party and in support of democracy.

The protest demonstration was organized by the "Hand in Hand" initiative, and received the support of more than 1,500 active associations in the country.

The demonstration included chants for freedom for Palestine, and a call for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Demonstrations also took place in other cities, including Dresden, Hanover, and Eisenach, with demonstrators chanting, "We are all against fascism."

Demonstrators carried banners with slogans such as “Racism is not an alternative,” and demanded freedom and equality, denouncing the Alternative for Germany party, which they said was anti-immigrants and anti-regime.

German Chancellor Olaf Schulz announced his support for the anti-far-right demonstrations, saying - via the X platform - that the demonstrations across the country to demonstrate against hatred are "a strong signal to German democracy and the constitution."

The 200 demonstrations across Germany came after a shock caused by a meeting organized by right-wing extremists in Potsdam, near Berlin, last November, in which a project for a large-scale expulsion campaign of immigrants was discussed.

On January 10, the Correctiv Investigative Journalism Network published a leak about the party’s secret meeting, which included a plan to deport millions of immigrants from the country.

It is noteworthy that 78 deputies represent the Alternative Party in the German Federal Parliament out of 763 seats.
