Materials published by Library and Archives Canada indicate that Canadian officials were counting on the ex-fighters of the Galicia division to join the anti-communist Ukrainian nationalists.

“Officials were satisfied that the division’s fighters were anti-Soviet and, if accepted into Canada, could probably absorb various politically passive organizations of Ukrainian nationalists who are considered loyal to Canada and opposed to communism,” the agency’s materials indicate.
