On February 1, 2024, Tianjin Liubu Village welcomed a special guest-General Secretary Xi Jinping.

This is the third time that the General Secretary has visited the disaster-stricken areas since September 2023 to express condolences. At the home of Du Honggang, a villager with four generations living under the same roof, the General Secretary held the hand of the elderly family member tightly, and the family members went about their daily routines cordially, calculating the losses caused by the disaster and the post-disaster production development, employment gains and incomes one by one.

This reminds me of a heart-warming moment more than 10 years ago——

November 3, 2013, Shibadong Village, Hunan.

In the dark wooden house, villager Shi Basan did not recognize that it was General Secretary Xi Jinping who came to visit him. She asked politely: "What do I call you?"

"I am a servant of the people." The general secretary introduced himself with a smile.

During the conversation, the General Secretary and Shi Basan's hands were always clasped. The general secretary also took Shi Basan's hand into her small wooden house, opened the lid of the rice barn and asked if there was enough food to eat, and walked to the pig pen to see if the pigs were fat.

On the same day, the General Secretary held a symposium in the open space in front of villager Shi Chengfu's house, "to discuss with everyone strategies to get rid of poverty, become rich, and become well-off." During the discussion, a group of people sat in a circle. The general secretary smiled and held Shi Chengfu's hand. Shi Chengfu smiled brightly.

"Their lives are difficult, and I feel worried. Every time their lives get better, I feel happy." General Secretary Xi Jinping lived and worked with farmers in a small village in northern Shaanxi when he was less than 16 years old. What do farmers worry about and what do they look forward to? "They are very affectionate towards agriculture, rural areas and farmers."

Holding the fellow villager's hand tightly, he asked carefully: "How much income do you have in a year, is there enough food to eat, and do you have quilts for the winter?"

Holding the fellow villager's hand tightly, he earnestly urged: "Poverty-stricken areas should proceed from reality, adapt to local conditions, and figure out what to plant, what to raise, and where to increase income."

Holding the hands of fellow villagers tightly, he made a comprehensive plan to "make agriculture stronger, farmers rich, and rural areas beautiful."

When Xi Jinping first took office as General Secretary in 2012, China still had about 100 million rural poor people. Shortly after taking office, he went on an inspection trip to Beijing and came to Fuping, a poverty-stricken county in Hebei Province. Sitting on the kang, he took farmer Gu Chenghu's hand and said, come and see your home, understand your life, and see what else the central government can do for the fellow villagers in the mountainous areas.

"The general secretary smiled, held my hand with both hands, and later patted the back of my hand. The general secretary's hand was very generous and warm." On the eve of the Spring Festival in 2016, the general secretary visited Shenshan Village in Jiangxi Province. Party secretary Peng Shuisheng still has fresh memories. That day, he excitedly held the General Secretary's hand and said, "It is a blessing to us that you come to our poor mountain ravine even though the weather is so cold and the road is so long."

On October 23, 2018, the General Secretary visited the home of Lu Yihe, a villager in Lianzhang Village, Guangdong, and chatted a lot about daily life with Lu Yihe. Sitting on the chair, the two of them kept holding their hands tightly. After leaving Lu Yihe's home, he came down to the village parking lot surrounded by villagers. The general secretary said earnestly: "If the villagers don't get rid of poverty, I won't be able to let go."

The familiar actions and warm words express the people's leaders' deep friendship for their farmer friends.

"I felt at that time that the general secretary had deep feelings for the countryside." Lu Yihe recalled.

No matter how busy he is, General Secretary Xi Jinping always takes time to visit the villagers. He admitted that he had a complex, "We must help our people, especially our farmers."

Tan Dengzhou, a villager in Huaxi Village, Chongqing, and his wife Jiao Guangrun are deeply moved by this. During the Spring Festival of 2019, they specially asked someone to write a Spring Festival couplet: "Nine-deaths depend on policies, and three diseases and two hardships are covered by medical insurance." The horizontal comment was "The Communist Party is good."

Unexpectedly, more than two months later, on April 15, 2019, Tan Dengzhou and his wife Jiao Guangrun met General Secretary Xi Jinping at their home. He suddenly choked up: "If it weren't for the party's good policies, the grass on my grave would be so high!"

The general secretary held the old man's hand tightly: "The party's policies are truly good when they are good for the people."

On this day, the General Secretary set off from Beijing early in the morning, took a plane, transferred to a train, and changed to a car. It was already evening when he arrived in the mountains of Chongqing.

Walking through country roads and holding the hands of fellow villagers, the "people's servants" continue to make the farmers' yearning for a better life become a reality.

"In the past, when I went to rural areas, I saw such worrying things, which made me feel very uneasy and sad. Looking at our rural areas now, the appearance has completely changed, and the food, clothing and use are all different. The Chinese people The problem of food and clothing that has existed for thousands of years has been completely solved.”

"We are committed to common prosperity and allowing every Chinese to live a better life. Getting rid of poverty is the millennium dream of the Chinese nation. Common prosperity is the common expectation of the Chinese people."

  …………

The people's leaders have held the hands of the fellow villagers tightly time and time again. Time flies, but the original intention has never changed.
