Dozens of Iranian-backed militias are deployed in Deir ez-Zor Governorate in eastern Syria, which entered the country years ago to provide support and assistance to the forces of President Bashar al-Assad's regime.

The activity of Iranian-backed armed groups has escalated since last October in Syria against the American presence, against the backdrop of Washington’s support for Israel in its war on Gaza, the most recent of which was the killing of 3 American soldiers in targeting a military base in northeastern Jordan near the border with Syria last Sunday.

Al Jazeera Net tracks in the following article the most important locations of the spread of Iranian militias that control several areas in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, the border between Syria and Iraq, and their numbers.
