The Houthi rebels of Yemen denounced this Saturday a new round of bombing by the United States and the United Kingdom against the capital, Sanaa, and four other provinces controlled by the insurgents, amid an escalation of violence in the Middle East after airstrikes by Washington on Friday in Syria and Iraq.

Al Masira television, spokesperson for the Houthis, said that there was an "American-British aggression against the capital", while Efe confirmed a series of

explosions against military barracks in Attan, Al Nahdain and Al Hafa, to the west, south and east. of Sana'a,

respectively.

Likewise, the channel noted that air attacks also took place against Houthi positions in the provinces of Hajjah (northwest), Dhamar (east), Al Bayda (center) and Taiz (southwest), in the first large-scale

air campaign

since that Washington and London launched their first action against Yemen on January 12.

These renewed bombings occur after the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it

had already carried out attacks this Saturday,

around 7:20 p.m. Sana'a time (4:20 p.m. GMT), against six anti-ship cruise missiles "prepared to be launched into the Red Sea," according to a statement.

According to Al Masira, these bombings targeted positions near the port town of

Al Hodeida,

on the shores of the Red Sea and where the Houthis usually launch their attacks against commercial ships and warships transiting the strategic sea route.

The American and British bombings against Houthi positions in Yemen began in response to the attacks that the insurgents have been carrying out almost daily since November 19

against commercial ships in the Red Sea,

where around 15% of maritime trade sails. world.

This Saturday's events take place a day after the US bombed positions of pro-Iran militias in Iraq and Syria, attacks that according to the Iraqi Government and the NGO Syrian Observatory for Human Rights have left

45 dead in both countries.

Washington's recent airstrikes against Syria, Iraq and Yemen have raised alarm bells throughout the Middle East, where several countries have already warned that this escalation could have
