In their protest movement, farmers denounce the small pensions of their elders. And, despite Gabriel Attal's announcements, the government responded evasively on the subject, referring to a probable future reform. For the occasion, Europe 1 went to meet a couple of retired farmers.

Among the reasons for the farmers' anger, the small pensions of their elders. A demand to which Gabriel Attal responded quite evasively, referring to a possible future reform. For the occasion, Europe 1 met a couple of retired farmers, Guy and Monique Berthelot, in Varennes-sur-Seine, in Seine-et-Marne. The latter is president of the section of former operators of the FNSEA in her department. And the couple, like many retired farmers, must make do with a small pension.

“We’re happy with it”

After 50 years of growing beets and cereals, the account is not there. “See, 1,000 pension for my husband, and me, 700 euros,” explains Monique at the microphone of Europe 1. Her husband admits that they did not expect to receive a large pension. He explains that the couple had to save money and are now trying to live. "We've gotten used to never going on vacation. If we go to a restaurant, it's maybe once a year. We have a television that's 50 years old, we're happy with it," says the retired.

Fortunately, there is the vegetable garden at the back of the house, a big saving for the couple. "It's my thing, I love it. At the moment, there are only leeks. I still had a few cauliflowers. We don't buy any vegetables of the year", explains Guy . With 900 euros each to live on, the retired couple has no illusions about their fate but hopes that future generations of retirees will see their pension calculated on the best 25 years and not their entire career. “It would be more to improve the retirement of future retirees,” hopes Monique. And for Guy, this would be a real breakthrough. A revaluation measure was passed by Parliament at the beginning of last year, but has still not been implemented.
