Today, Friday, Jordanian official television quoted a military source as saying that border guard forces arrested four Israelis for a short period yesterday after they crossed the border fence by mistake.
The Jordanian military source said that investigations revealed that the infiltrators crossed the border strip from the west towards the east by mistake, and that there were no soldiers among them, and they were returned via official roads, as he put it.
On the other hand, an Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman said that the ministry received a report last night about 4 Israeli young men who accidentally crossed the border in the Wadi Rum area during a jeep trip, and that the local Jordanian authorities arrested them there for interrogation.
The Israeli spokesman added that upon receiving the report, the Israeli Consulate in the Kingdom and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs worked with the relevant authorities for their speedy return, “and after a few hours, they all returned safely to Israel.”
Last August, the Jordanian army announced the arrest of an Israeli after he attempted to infiltrate the Kingdom's territory, without mentioning the measures taken against him.
Jordan and Israel are bound by a peace agreement in 1994, and there are 3 border crossings between them: Sheikh Hussein, King Hussein Bridge, and Wadi Araba.
