“Now this issue is entirely in the hands of the investigative authorities,” a Kremlin spokesman said when asked whether Russia would consider handing over the bodies if such a request were received.

Peskov recalled that an investigation is underway, and during the investigation “all regimes are determined only by the investigative authorities.”

The Ukrainian Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense previously stated that Ukraine is asking Russia to hand over to it the bodies of Ukrainian prisoners of war who died as a result of a Ukrainian Armed Forces strike on a Russian Il-76 in the Belgorod region. The Kremlin subsequently reported that Kyiv had not received any appeals to the presidential administration.

The Investigative Committee found out that the anti-aircraft missile weapons from which the attack was carried out were located in the village of Liptsy, Kharkov region. During the investigation, it became known that the plane was shot down by the American Patriot system. The remains of the victims have already been identified, more than 670 fragments of bodies were found at the crash site, and partially preserved personal documents were also confiscated.
