On Thursday, the statistics department of the Ministry of the Interior revealed the delinquency figures for the year 2023. These are increasing on practically all indicators last year. And, according to information from Europe 1, police officers on the front line are increasingly being targeted and injured during intervention.

The crime figures are very bad. The statistics department of the Ministry of the Interior revealed on Thursday that they were increasing on almost all indicators last year. As a result of this insecurity, police officers on the front line are increasingly targeted. According to information from Europe 1, there are more and more police officers injured in intervention.

15,150 police officers injured in 2023

The HR services at Place Beauvau identify 15,150 police officers injured in 2023, more than 40 daily. An increase of 4.1% compared to the year 2022. This curve, which has been increasing for three years now, can be explained for last year by the social movement against pension reform. During these mobilizations, the mobile force units were severely tested. A note from the office of prevention and quality at work also puts forward another reason. That of the nights of riots last summer, particularly violent.

The leading cause of injuries is assault by a third party. This intentional violence concerns all police personnel: those active on public roads, but also assistant police officers and administrative staff. Nine police officers lost their lives while on duty last year. Since 2010, 124 police officers have died on duty. Concretely, 51% are accidental deaths, 25% during the home-work journey, and 24% following intentional or involuntary homicide.
