On February 2, the Intermediate People's Court of Liupanshui City, Guizhou Province publicly pronounced the first instance verdict on Gao Weidong, the former party committee member and director of the Guizhou Provincial Bureau of Coalfield Geology, for accepting bribes. The defendant Gao Weidong was sentenced to life imprisonment for accepting bribes, deprived of political rights for life, and sentenced to confiscation of personal information. All property; Gao Weidong's bribery gains and their interest will be recovered in accordance with the law and turned over to the state treasury.
Public information shows that Gao Weidong was born in November 1972, started working in July 1993, and joined the Communist Party of China in December 1997. In May 2022, officials reported that Gao Weidong was under investigation while in office. In December of the same year, officials announced that he had been expelled from the party and public office. He was accused of "being a two-faced person", "playing golf and accepting banquets against the rules for a long time", "addicting to gambling for a long time and visiting prostitutes many times", etc.
After trial, it was found that from 1999 to 2022, the defendant Gao Weidong served as the director of the Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection Bureau of Guiyang Economic and Technological Development Zone, the former deputy district chief of Xiaohe District, Guiyang City, the former Jinyang New District Development and Construction Co., Ltd., and Jinyang Construction Investment ( Group) Co., Ltd., Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Guiyang Municipal Transportation Bureau, Deputy Mayor of Guiyang City, Deputy Secretary of the Party Working Committee and Director of the Management Committee of Guizhou Shuanglong Airport Economic Zone, Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of the Guizhou Provincial Department of Transportation Director, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of China Kweichow Moutai Distillery (Group) Co., Ltd., Member of the Party Committee and Director of the Guizhou Provincial Bureau of Coalfield Geology, etc., to facilitate relevant individuals and units in operating companies, contracting engineering projects, Provided assistance in obtaining land development rights, purchasing Maotai liquor, etc., and illegally received property directly or through relevant personnel, totaling more than 110 million yuan, of which more than 46.56 million yuan (RMB) was not actually obtained.

In view that after Gao Weidong arrived at the case, he truthfully confessed the bribery crime facts that the supervisory authorities had mastered, and took the initiative to explain most of the bribery facts that the supervisory agencies had not yet grasped. Some of the crimes were attempted, he pleaded guilty and repented, and most of the stolen money and stolen goods were returned, so he was given a lighter punishment in accordance with the law. .
