A previous Israeli raid targeted the Revolutionary Guard in Damascus (French)

A semi-official Iranian news website reported - today, Friday - that an advisor from the Revolutionary Guards was killed in an Israeli strike in Damascus, after Syria announced that its air defense had intercepted Israeli missiles launched from the occupied Golan and targeting southern Damascus.

Today, the Syrian Arab News Agency quoted a military source as saying that the army shot down a number of Israeli missiles, adding that the losses were limited to material losses, without clarifying what the raid targeted.

This came after reports of explosions echoed in the vicinity of the Syrian capital during the night.

There has been no official comment from Iran about the losses of the Israeli strike yet, nor did the Israeli army comment on the raid.

On the other hand, Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported that Israel launched an attack on the headquarters of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in the Sayyida Zeinab area near Damascus.

Yesterday, Reuters quoted informed sources as saying that Iran had reduced the deployment of senior Revolutionary Guard officers in Syria, after a series of “deadly” Israeli strikes that targeted its presence and interests there, and resulted in the killing of 6 of its senior advisors.

The agency added - quoting the sources - that Iran will manage its operations in Syria remotely with the help of Lebanese Hezbollah, and indicated that it sought a comment from Hezbollah on this information, but has not yet received a response.

For years, Israel has been launching attacks on what it describes as targets linked to Iran in Syria. It has also escalated its strikes in Syria coinciding with its launch of aggression against the Gaza Strip since last October 7, targeting Syrian air defense systems and Damascus airport.
