  • 18-F Yolanda Díaz calls for the unity of the Galician left: "Let's show that we want to govern together"

  • Interview Alfonso Rueda: "The alternative to the PP is to turn Galicia into an independence branch supported by the PSOE"

Yolanda Díaz will lead the landing of Sumar ministers in the Galician election campaign, which kicks off tonight. The second vice president of the Government is aware that her political project faces its first litmus test since her debut in the general elections, and that she is also doing so in her homeland. Therefore, on the road until

February 18,

she has to do the rest and count on the fact that any hand is necessary in the objective of supporting Sumar. She will be the first to take the lead, as she will participate in a minimum of five events, in addition to trying to contribute to the candidacy led by

Marta Lois

through her presence in the media.

In addition to the leader of Sumar, the rest of the ministers of the political space will go to Galicia to participate in one way or another in the Galician campaign. The one who a priori will do so on the most occasions will be the head of Culture,

Ernest Urtasun

, who will intervene in at least two electoral events. It should be remembered that he also has a significant political position as spokesperson for Sumar.

The disembarkation will be completed by the Minister of Health,

Mónica García

; that of Social Rights,

Pablo Bustinduy

; and that of Youth and Children,

Sira Rego

. All three will set foot in Galicia at least once.

Díaz, who was already involved in the preparation of the Galician candidacy and in the election of Lois as her electoral bet, shows where Sumar has its great hopes: in the results of La Coruña and Pontevedra. It will be in these two provinces where, according to Sumar sources, he will concentrate his events, with appearances in Ferrol (on Saturday the 3rd), Santiago and La Coruña, and in Vigo and Pontevedra.

The We Can Factor

It is, in fact, these two constituencies and, specifically, in their large cities, where this new political force believes that it is playing its trick of entering the Parliament of Galicia for the first time. It is a challenge in which the previous brand of the non-nationalist alternative left,

Galicia en Común

, crashed resoundingly in 2020, as it was not even able to win a single seat. That candidacy was led by Podemos, which today is running alone after the agreement with Sumar to go together to the Galician elections was derailed.

There is not a single survey that gives Podemos options - the CIS estimates 0.5% of the vote - but that loss of votes, even if it is a few hundred or thousands, can have an influence on Sumar's results if it were very fair. However, the strong presence of Díaz and Sumar's ministers does not go so much to neutralize Podemos as to cut off the very powerful transfer of votes that some polls contemplate among those who once voted to space and who today are strongly tempted by choose the BNG ballot. It is no coincidence that the message is to appeal to "repeat the general vote" to achieve "change" in the Xunta, dislodging the PP.

That is why Díaz appears to be Sumar's great electoral claim. And with her the figures that accompany her in the Government. Or those who come from Congress: Lois, in her case, and

Íñigo Errejón

, who is also joining the campaign after a month of January in which he was already seen there.

OPENING

Marta Lois's campaign starts this Thursday at 8:00 p.m. in

Cangas

, a municipality located on the outskirts of Vigo that represents one of the most important traditional enclaves of the non-nationalist left. There Sumar achieved 20% of the vote in the general elections, when the country's average was 12.3%. It opens in Pontevedra and will close in a city in La Coruña.
