According to Orban, quoted by RIA Novosti, Hungary feared that funds due to it from EU funds would be sent to Ukraine and that the EU would decide to provide money to Kyiv “for too long a period without verification.”

“Last night, this morning we received a proposal and in the end we developed a verification mechanism that guarantees the reasonable use of funds, and received guarantees that Hungarian money will not end up in Ukraine,” the Hungarian prime minister said.

Earlier, The Guardian newspaper reported that Orban received nothing in exchange for the EU providing assistance to Ukraine.
