The EU (European Union) held an extraordinary summit meeting, and all member states, including Hungary, which had previously opposed it, agreed to provide financial support of 8 trillion yen in Japanese yen to Ukraine.

The EU held an extraordinary summit meeting in Belgium on the 1st to discuss financial support for Ukraine. We agreed to provide support of 50 billion euros, or 8 trillion yen in Japanese yen.

The agreement calls for national leaders to discuss financial support annually and, if necessary, to submit proposals to the executive body, the European Commission, after two years.

Hungary had called for an annual review and unanimous decision on whether to continue aid, but this was not included in the agreement.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who attended the summit online, said, ``This is a clear signal that Ukraine will hold on, and Europe will hold on.''The fact that the agreement was unanimous also clearly shows the EU's strong solidarity and support for Ukraine.'' "This is very important in that sense," he said, welcoming the project.

At a press conference, EU President Michel said, noting that the U.S. Congress had not approved the emergency budget needed to continue military aid to Ukraine, ``The EU's decision makes it difficult for the U.S. to provide additional financial support to Ukraine.'' I hope that this will provide support to those who wish to do so," expressing hope that the United States will follow the EU's lead in providing support.
