'Dreamgirls' actor Hinton Battle has died

Hinton was a trained ballet dancer who made his Broadway debut in 'The Wiz'

He originally auditioned for a position in the chorus but stepped in to replace Stu Gilliam after he fell ill during a pre-Broadway tryout.

He went on to win Tony Awards for Featured Actor in a Musical for 'Sophisticated Ladies' (1981), 'The Tap Dance Kid' (1984) and 1991's 'Miss Saigon', with no other performer winning that gong
