On the 31st, a senior official of the US State Department revealed in an interview with NHK and other broadcasters that Secretary of State Blinken will soon visit the Middle East.

They are expected to visit Israel and neighboring countries, where they are expected to exchange opinions on negotiations for the release of hostages held by the Islamic organization Hamas and a cessation of fighting, as well as the way the Gaza Strip should be managed after the fighting.

They are also expected to discuss the attack on a US military base in Jordan that left a soldier dead.

Furthermore, in response to a series of attacks on ships in the Red Sea by Yemen's Houthi rebel group, Japan is expected to renew its efforts to prevent escalation of tensions in the region.

Secretary Blinken's visit to the Middle East will be his fifth since conflict between Israel and Hamas began in October last year.
