The EU = European Union will hold a summit meeting on the 1st to discuss financial support to Ukraine.

The focus is on whether Hungary, which opposed the deal last time, will agree, and whether they can reach an agreement on a massive financial aid of nearly 8 trillion yen.

This summit will be held to discuss the issue once again, as Hungary opposed financial aid to Ukraine at the previous meeting in December last year, and the EU was unable to reach an agreement.

The aim is to reach an agreement to provide financial support of 50 billion euros, or over 7.9 trillion yen, to Ukraine over the next four years, but Hungary will review the agreement every year and decide unanimously each time whether to provide support. EU officials say it is not yet clear whether an agreement can be reached this time.

At the summit, there will also be an exchange of opinions regarding military support, including the provision of weapons and artillery shells to Ukraine.

The EU has set a goal of providing 1 million shells and other items to Ukraine in the year to the end of March this year, but Borrell, the EU's foreign minister and high representative, said at a press conference on the 31st that It is estimated that only about 500,000 shots will be produced.

Before the summit meeting, the leaders of the five member countries, including German Chancellor Scholz and Estonian Prime Minister Kallas, wrote in an article in the British economic newspaper Financial Times, saying, ``We believe that all countries have a heavy responsibility and that all countries are capable of providing military aid to Ukraine.'' "We must do everything we can," he said, calling on the EU and member states to steadily implement support.

The main focus of this summit is whether the two countries can reach an agreement on financial support for Ukraine and also strengthen military support.
