As the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated during a briefing, Japan is currently actively inciting Russophobic sentiments, sanctions from the authorities of the Asian country are multiplying, and military activity is increasing on Russia’s borders.

“What can we say, in such conditions we do not see any possibility of continuing the previously held dialogue with Tokyo on the conclusion of a fundamental document, which was intended to lay the foundation for long-term, good-faith relations,” she said.

Earlier, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced plans to conclude a peace treaty with Russia after resolving the dispute over the Kuril Islands.

Russian authorities have repeatedly spoken about the indisputability of Russian sovereignty over the Kuril Islands. As noted in the Kremlin, there are currently no prospects for negotiations on a peace treaty with Japan. According to Dmitry Peskov, Japan has actively joined the camp of unfriendly states.
