Every morning, Jean Zeid delivers the best in terms of innovation. This Wednesday, he is interested in a glass container deposit project, initiated by the network of experts Circul'R and a strategy consulting firm called "We Don't Need Roads".

This Wednesday morning, the world of cosmetics is getting involved.

It seems that the trend is towards union. Yesterday morning, we were talking about Volago, a platform dedicated to fashion and bringing together around twenty brands. Today, it’s time for the French cosmetics industry to get involved. Its target: the reuse of packaging. His project: implement a glass container deposit project.

Are these big brands?

Yes, for once, this union represents a major economic weight: L'Oréal, Chanel, Clarins, Melvita, Yves Rocher, Pierre Fabre and so on. To these names are added those of the distributors Nocibé and Séphora. Major players in the sector are committed to reducing packaging. At the origin of this initiative, we find a network of Circul'R experts and a strategy consulting firm We Don't Need Roads. Their mission? Organize this conference between all links in the sector chain to put into practice viable solutions in the environmental field.

Is it already in application?

So this is where we have to talk about timing, because putting in place a guideline to reduce single-use packaging for such important players, and therefore for such a massage production, takes time.

It is a pilot project and it should be launched for testing by the end of 2024 in the points of sale of these twelve giants of the sector

Are there other benefits than those related to the environment?

Already, this allows us to be up to date at the regulatory level. The AGEC law provides for targets of 7% reused packaging by 2025; 10% by 2027. An AGEC law which will ban single-use plastic packaging by 2040.

But experimentation has other advantages since this pooling of brands allows a substantial reduction in costs. On the consumer side, the advantage is that this creates harmonized standards around the deposit even between the different brands. Rather proactive consumers, according to a recent survey, 88% of French people have already adopted reuse practices.

Other experiments are underway in France. There is the Cosm'N'Pack project by Cosmébio or even Ibbeo cosmetics which created Coveco, a subsidiary which washes and reconditions containers. But the unprecedented union of manufacturers and distributors could significantly accelerate this trend towards reuse.
