China News Service, Hohhot, January 29 (Reporter Zhang Wei) On the 29th, the second session of the 13th CPPCC Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region opened. Bao Wei, member of the CPPCC Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and director of the Wuliang Suhai Ecological Protection Center in Bayannur City, answered reporters' questions. , through systematic management and comprehensive policies, a mid-term assessment showed that the total amount of pollutants entering the Wuliangsuhai lake dropped by 15.23%.

Wuliangsuhai is located at the top of the "Bend" of the Yellow River. It is the largest lake wetland in the Yellow River Basin. It is also an extremely rare multi-functional lake located in arid grasslands and desert areas in the world.

Bao Wei said that Wuliangsuhai, with a total area of about 293 square kilometers, undertakes the important functions of dividing the Yellow River and diverting floods, protecting the Yellow River's biodiversity and water ecological security. However, in the 1990s, due to the small amount of water entering the lake, high eutrophication, low precipitation, high evaporation and other factors, there were more and more pollutants in the Wuliangsuhai basin, and the water quality deteriorated to worse than Category V. It has become a major hidden danger endangering the ecological security of the Yellow River Basin.

After 2012, Wuliangsuhai started a new stage of integrated conservation and management.

"Carry out comprehensive management of the geological environment of Wula Mountain and the surrounding areas, focus on solving problems such as flood irrigation, scientifically promote land space greening, promote high-standard farmland construction, and effectively expand desert management coverage." Bao Wei said, while implementing water and soil conservation and vegetation restoration, Comprehensive forest protection and other projects; coordinated management of lakes, shores, and river basins, and joint efforts in production, life, and ecology.

Through coordinated promotion and comprehensive management of mountain protection, water conservation, afforestation, land conversion, lake protection, grass increase, and sand control, Wuliangsuhai has moved from an "ecological danger" to a clean sea. In 2023, the water quality of the mid-lake section of Wuliangsuhai will be stable at Category IV, and the biodiversity will continue to improve.

Bao Wei said that the next step will be to carry out in-depth scientific research on Wuliangsuhai treatment technology, strengthen the research and application of non-point source pollution prevention and control technology in the river basin; accelerate the implementation of the extension and modernization of the Hetao Irrigation Area, high-standard farmland and other projects, and strive to improve the ecological environment of Wuliangsuhai. Replenish water; strengthen scientific research on ecological protection and management of river basins, speed up the process of "fishermen landing", and continue to carry out ecological regulation, enhancement and release.
